Genesis 8

And we have been speaking quite a lot on it.

Most of you can now start reciting Genesis 8 from Genesis 8.22 out of your head.

And you know the scripture, how we have studied it and how we started unpacking it.

It was amazing to hear Pastor Sean this morning that was ministering at the Goodwood campus.

Come on, sometimes we have all these excuses already in our minds

why certain things aren't going to happen.

You go into a hospital room and I'm going to get to Genesis 8.22 now.

And I'm going to get to Galatians now.

And if you remember my last passage, you know, the sun god, it's no different than Christianity, Jesus' son.

In Genesis 6-7, God says, I will wipe from the face of the earth the human race I have created, and with them the animals, the birds, and the creatures that move along the ground, for I regret that I have made them.

In Isaiah 45-7, I form light and create darkness.

I make well-being and create calamity.

Now, beyond this, God demanded a blood sacrifice, but stops it at the end.

Through Abraham's faith, God allows the sacrifice to be transferred to animals, specifically rams, bulls, goats, or in astrology, that's Ares the ram, Taurus the bull, and Capricorn's the goat.

Aside from that, Genesis 8, 21, and the Lord was pleased with the aroma of the sacrifice from Noah.

The Lord smelled the burning flesh and was pleased.

Aside from that, Genesis 8:21, "And the Lord was pleased with the aroma of the sacrifice from Noah.

That this wasn't one of the-- this wasn't the one true God, but a lesser God, one who had bloodlust, who was jealous, sacrifices and all the blood spilled.

Bringing this essay to a close, I land on perhaps the most important argument for the Sabbath being liturgical, that God is refreshed when His people keep Sabbath and worship Him.

Drawing on the parallel idea that God is pleased when he smells the pleasing aroma of the sacrifice seen in places like Genesis 8, 21 and Exodus 29, 18, 29, and 41 and throughout Leviticus, the best way to understand the Lord's refreshment is in terms of rightly ordered worship.

Here's how it reads in Exodus 31, 17.

Speaking of the Sabbaths, Moses says, It is a sign forever between me and the people of Israel, that in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, and on the seventh day he rested and was refreshed.
