Genesis 48

This is the one that Peter Alex really nails down in that section of his larger book that I, you know, kind of re-put into modern English.

This is in Genesis 48:15 and 16.

Um, he says, "The God before whom my fathers Abraham and Isaac walked, the God who's been my shepherd," interesting language there, "all my life long to this day, the Angel who has redeemed me from all evil, bless the boys." So he calls him threefold, the God, the Elohim, the Elohim, the Angel.

And so Jacob knew that this entity that covenanted with his father and his grandfather, he knew him as both God and angel.

Amen.

Keep your Bibles open there in Genesis 48, because we're gonna go around that story.

You know, one of the aspects of the relationship with God is that he gives us promises.

And fasting is a good period for us to reflect on those personal promises.

No, I'm not...

It's not the introduction.

Now we're Genesis 48.

It's beautiful because the promise that was part of the Abrahamic promise did not come in completeness in Abraham's lifetime.

Now you have the daughters of this one man As you see here, Zelophehad, his daughters are also reminding Joseph of the promise that was given to them by God through Moses.

It's an unusual situation, but one of the things we have here is the fact, and you see this, you saw it in Genesis 48, you see it here in Joshua.

If you're going to follow this, we have to see it is about patriarchs and about patriarchal lineage.

Now, the patriarchal lineage is through the sons.

We're not going to go through each one of them, but I'll just give the verses.

Genesis 48, 16, Tobias 12, 12 through 15.

That's chapter 12, verses 12 through 15.

Job 33.23-24, Psalm 34.7, Psalm 91.11, Acts 12.15, Hebrews 1.14.

So Genesis 35 and verse 22 is where you read about that with Reuben.

But now let's go back to Genesis and go to Genesis 48.

Genesis 48.

And at this point, we want to take a look at Israel blessing Joseph's sons.

Now, Joseph of the sons of Israel, again, we just read, was the birthright son.

But in particular, he was going to get the greatest of these blessings.

So now he brings his sons to his father, Jacob, or Israel.
