Genesis 24

You see, Isaac was the son that God had promised to Abraham and Sarah, and Abraham and Sarah had waited a long time for him.

Well, by Genesis chapter 24, Isaac isn't a little boy anymore.

He's about 40 years old.

Abraham's like, "This guy's gotta get married." So Abraham begins to think through, "How can I find a wife for my son, Isaac?" Uh, now he wanted something very specific.

And typically in Abraham's culture, it was the women of a town or a village that would do this task.

And so this employee of Abraham, he goes next to this whale, well, and he prays this prayer.

You can find it actually in Genesis chapter 24, verses 12, 13, 14, 15.

Turn with me if you have a Bible.

the number right.

But instead, the person who got the film rolling went in and showed Genesis 24 instead of episode 24.

And in that episode, the beginning of that episode is when Abraham is commissioning Eliezer, his servant, to go find a bride for Isaac, and they have this really weird covenant ceremony [laughs] where it says that Abraham, you know, places his hand on his thigh, and we explained what that means in the Hebrew, which is very awkward.

And go listen to the episode if you don't know.

But consummating the marriage and all that came later.

But folks, my point here is when we start thinking about, this is Genesis 24, tremendous, tremendous when it comes to seeking for a wife or trying to find a mate.

You've heard me say it before, that if you're in high school and you're a lady, you're a female, a young teenager, you are looking for bridesmails, br- bridesmaids.

That you're not looking for a husband in high school.

Let's-- We can make inferences.

Let's go to Genesis 24, um, verse 22.

Abraham's servant, he goes to get a bride for, for Abraham's son, Isaac.

This is the father of faith, his family.

Rest on all sides.

Genesis 24 and verse 1.

Let me show you what rest round about looks like.

Genesis 24 and verse 1.

Everybody please read together.

This is the Bible's definition of rest.

I once wrote a, a, a message on it, shared it a number of years ago, called Biblical Goal Setting, if you wanna go watch it, uh, online.

But Genesis 24 is the story of Abraham, and Abraham has a servant named Eliezer, and Abraham gives his servant Eliezer a huge task, a huge goal.

And what's the goal? He said, "Eliezer, I want you to go back to my home country, to my home people, and I want you to find a wife for my son, Isaac." Pretty big goal.

That's a pretty big responsibility.

And in Genesis chapter 24, if you go back and read it, it's about 50 verses, Eliezer brilliantly breaks down this big goal, find a wife for Isaac.

into bite-sized tasks and steps.

And honestly, uh, it's a case study, Genesis 24.

It's a case study of 10 classic steps, and that's the third thing you do.

Let's find out a little about Eliezer in verse, chapter 24, then we'll go back to chapter 15.

Genesis 24, reading from verse one.

Our subject is the pure in heart.

Genesis 24, reading from verse one.

The Bible says, "And Abraham was old, and well stricken in age: and the Lord had blessed Abraham." You finish it.

In all things.

Eliezer, [laughs] who was in charge of all of Abraham's property, he knew everything Abraham had.

He controlled it.

But he's also saying to us, if I've removed you from a kingdred, from a people, unless I ask you to go back, you don't return.

amen praise god and that is what he's saying so genesis 24 1 through 28 kind of give us a breakdown the traditional way how things are done.

And Abraham was honoring kind of a traditional way of life.

But then again, it was the same God.

So God is saying now, hey, If I moved you from any traditions, from any conventional relationships, anything that seemed to have been the norm for years, and I've moved you out of it, I don't expect you to return to it unless I tell you to return to it.

And I praise God.

No. thank you jesus so god is intentional about what he's saying to us right i mean genesis 24 1 through 28 i'm not going to read all of it but look at this he thought god was pleased but god is saying today in these cases where he asks you to leave your kindred as he asked abraham he would not want you to return to any entanglement of the sort so so so we see that god told abraham to pack up his stuff and leave his kindred and his people and go to a land he's going to give him abraham's been living around other places for years but then all of a sudden now he has his son and he feels like he needs a wife for this son isaac and then he's going to go right back into this kindred and his people and he's going to go get a wife over there And then we wonder how now Rebecca is causing problems between the two sons.

Now he has the two sons, Isaac and Jacob.
