Geena Davis Institute on Gender in Media

Geena Davis Institute on Gender in Media

Founded in 2004 by Academy Award Winning Actor Geena Davis, the Institute is the only global research-based organization working collaboratively within the entertainment industry to create gender balance, foster inclusion and reduce negative stereotyping in entertainment media. Our research is unique in its approach and methods. We are the only global public data institute to consistently analyze representations of the six major marginalized identities: women, people of color, LGBTQIA+, people with disabilities, older people (60+), and body type in advertising, film, television, and video gaming. Our data-led research, drives our advocacy and empowers our content creators to systemically reimagine and measure their content in order to create inclusive content for our diverse society.www.geenadavisinstitute.org

I would argue that, yes, Fox Social Impact got in touch with the Geena Davis Institute for Gender and Media Studies, kind of the perfect people to do that.

The Geena Davis Foundation does a lot of work when it comes to that kind of thing.

[laughs] But again, if you can't see it, you can't be it.
MaryAnn PfeifferGUEST

Um, the Geena Davis Institute has this whole thing about, like, seeing women in film doing certain things and how that progresses us.
MaryAnn PfeifferGUEST
27:10
And, you know, I think that these networking groups, you see someone who's 10, 15, 20 years ahead of you in business, and the success she's found and the struggles she's gone through, and maybe you can relate to some of those.
MaryAnn PfeifferGUEST
27:22
And that helps you feel confidence that you can do it, too, and that, like, you can't do it any other way.

Now, before we dive into the questions that you submitted on Patreon, a few words about sponsors who make it possible for Ologies to donate to a different cause each week.
Alie WardHOST
20:04
Now, Crystal chose her donation to go to the Geena Davis Institute on Gender in Media.
Alie WardHOST

So thanks, Dr. Dilworth.

A donation will go to them, and that is made possible by some sponsors of the show, which you may hear about now.
