Geek Stink Breath

The production is punchy, the songs are generally shorter, and Billy Joe sounds considerably less interested in making everybody happy.

First, let's start with Geek Stink Breath.

The song doesn't exactly ease you into the album.

It's about methamphetamine use and its destructive consequences.

The acoustic arrangement was a major departure for Green Day, and Armstrong later described how the success of the song helped free the band from restrictive ideas about what punk rock was supposed to sound like.

Now think about that.

The same band that gave us Longview and Geek Stink Breath have now created a song that your high school principal could comfortably play at graduation.

That's either the ultimate musical achievement or the greatest punk rock practical joke in history.
