At least, I like to think so.

So it is here, 20 minutes of conversation between composer Gavin Higgins, who has written a concerto for composer and clarinetist Mark Simpson, premiered by the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra in October 2026.

There's not much else to say other than what they say, so I'll leave that to them.

My name is Mark Simpson, I'm a clarinetist and on the 17th of October in Liverpool I will be performing the world premiere of Gavin Higgins's Clarinet Concerto with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic and Adam

Me and Mark have been really good friends for, I mean for nearly 20 years now, and Mark actually commissioned the first ever paid commission i ever had which was a little piece of clarinet and piano called three broken love songs um way back in like 20 2005 or something like that 2006 something like that um and uh he's played it loads and he's recorded it and we like we had a sort of a conversation a joke conversation but i'll one day i should write your clarinet concerto And it's always kind of been there at the back of my mind, but it's just, you know how these things are.
