All right.

If you hear footsteps coming up your basement stairs and everybody in your house is already upstairs, do you go look? Apparently, in November of 2011, Latoya Adams and her family moved into a rental home in Gray, Indiana.

Then came the flies.

That's when you call the exterminator.

Their neighbors were the Nottinghams.

Vic, his wife, who was also named Peggy, and their 20-year-old son, Gary.

Vic was a builder, meaning he was practical and good with houses, not the type to get jumpy at a strange sound.

He and Gary went into number 284 to figure out what was going on.

They heard the knocking too.

Vic checked everywhere and couldn't find where it was coming from.

Here's the thing about asking what would happen if Enfield happened today.

We don't actually have to guess because it basically did.

Then on June 5th, they vanished from the city of Chicago.

Using fraudulent identification, the couple rented a small apartment in Gary, Indiana, and for the next two weeks, they attempted to lie low.

But then, on June 18th, seven-year-old Tamika Turks and her nine-year-old aunt went missing while on a routine trip to a nearby convenience store.

The older girl was found alive but in critical condition just a few hours later, but little Tamika remained missing.

The following morning the seven-year-old's lifeless corpse was found in an area of woodland just outside of Gary.

Someone had quite literally stomped her to death.

When the nine-year-old awoke in the hospital, she gave a harrowing account of what had occurred.

So when researchers mapped asthma across Cook County, the biggest cluster was on the south side along the industrial corridor.

And just, you know, over the state line into Indiana, we have U.S. Steel's Gary Works in Gary, Indiana, puts out so much pollution that one report estimates that it causes almost 32,000 asthma attacks a year.

More toxins in the air, more asthma.
