I'm so glad you mentioned some of these recent cases of communities losing power.

I want to bring up Gary, Indiana, which has been in the news recently.

A city that is more than 80% black, where a third of residents are in poverty, and they suffered this weeks-long power outage in the middle of summer.

As the monopoly power company in their community, NIPSCO, failed to restore service.

Many people have argued that this was not just another climate-related disaster that was already disproportionately impacting a community of color, but also fallout from rapid data center expansion in the area.

As you were watching news unfold from places like Gary, Indiana this summer, what was top of mind for you? And what are the steps forward to help communities like that going forward?

So Gary, I think, is a perfect example of what happens when you have a number of decisions that were made for communities that did not actually reflect the concerns or the priorities of what everyday people ask for.

For one, Gary is a place where the community was a recipient of solar for all funding.

And I want to remember someone from my hometown and my own high school, Marine Sergeant Jeanette Winters.

She graduated from Calumet High School in Gary, Indiana, the same high school I attended.

And her story is one that deserves to be remembered.

I recently went to the Rocky mountain labs and this, this is something I just want to really put out there because I get, I get really worried that, um, information can get, uh, withheld.

I, I suspect Gary, Indiana and what happened for a couple of weeks with the, the black out there could be a test run for, for really keeping information from getting out and And when I was floating the river, the Bitterroot River with a friend intentionally to go see the Rocky Mountain Lab, which has been in the media recently, Laura Loomer was claiming some crazy thing was going to happen with like Ebola.

Tim Sheehy, our senator, has also been very critical of the Rocky Mountain Lab.

But I went up there and.

So tell us about that and tell us a little bit about some of the corruption and things that you're trying to shine a light on and prevent that keeps us in these situations.

Well, you know, in the editorial that I put out there, people mistakenly thought that Gary was like the only community that was out of power.

It was like practically all of Lake County.

And a lot of people got hit and communities like Lake Station and Portage.

There are some areas still in Gary that are still out.

And a lot of people were trying to say it was environmental racism.

I don't agree with that.

I think it was an issue with NIPSCO, which has the highest rates in the state.

67 degrees right now at O'Hare.

It is 68 at Midway, 70 in Gary.

It is still kind of muggy around the area this morning.

I think we'll gradually see the muggies dispersing, diminishing here this afternoon.

Here's that visibility in Aurora.

That's the worst one showing up down to a quarter of a mile.

65 in DeKalb, 70 Gary, 65 in Kankakee, and 64 in Waukegan.
