Actor-writer Gary Conway developed the concept around professional arm wrestling.

After earlier efforts to get the project financed stalled, Conway eventually sold the screenplay to Canon.

Menachem Golan liked the concept but wanted Sylvester Stallone rather than Conway in the starring role.

The film credits Gary Conway and David C. Engelbach with story while Sterling Siliphant and Sylvester Stallone received the screenplay credit.

So those are the additional names.

They announced Stallone's involvement in 1984, keep that in mind, at a $12 million salary.
