Gary Cherone

I do like the song quite a bit.

It's almost like Gary Cherone when he wrote on the first Extreme album.

There are some kind of silly songs in there.

This would fit right in there.

October 4th, when fans thought maybe it might happen, but it didn't.

Eddie and Alex Van Halen announced David Lee Roth will not be continuing as the lead singer of Van Halen, yet Gary Cherone will be the band's next vocalist.

I was kind of sad about this.

This was very sad because we basically, let's be, I think we can go back now, Kevin, and say the root of Van Halen's internal strife was probably Alex Van Halen.

Yes, we were excited to get David Lee Rothbath, even though it cost us Sammy Hagar.

That never materialized.

There was a whole hubba-boo about that, but it led us to that Gary Cherone album of Van Halen that I think many of us would like to forget ever existed.

Some people think it was really, really good.

there was another night when we were, I, I was going over to do press for black label society in 98.

And, uh, King Edward and the fellas were playing with Gary when they had Van Halen 3.

With Gary

Cherone.

With Gary, yeah.

Father Gary over there.

And then they were, but they were playing, it was, you know, it was Mike, Alex, Gary, and Eddie.

It was all of them with Gary.

Because nobody, and I mean nobody, is going around saying that, uh, Sammy Hagar or, God forbid, the other guy is-

Gary Cherone.

he was really struggling, and he would have Dave on, and he would always tell Dave how much he wants Dave back in the band and the whole thing.

But we get the 1998 version of Van Halen that features Gary Cherone, and they visited Howard.

That was an unusual kind of awkward-

That was such a fascinating appearance.

YouTube? Yeah, that is, yeah, Howard Stern made a, uh, the, yeah, Howard Stern had a thing called the, uh, it was o- it was on the E! Channel.

I think it was just called The Howard Stern Show, and it would be, uh, standout moments of the show.

And, but he would also film bits, and there was a bit where it was, this was right after, uh, the whole thing where Dave Lee Roth came back and left, and Sammy Hagar was that, right before Gary Cherone joined.

And they said, um, it was all a thing with could Crackhead, or that Crackhead Bob should be Van Halen's next singer.

So, hey, do you remember the feeling you had? 'Cause I remember the feeling I had, that's what I wanna ask you.

When it was announced that David Lee Roth was reuniting with Van Halen, but it was short-lived 'cause Gary Cherone came in after.

But that moment, I remember pulling over the car when the DJ announced it, that David Lee Roth's back with Van Halen.

They're working on a greatest hits record, you know, blah, blah, blah.

So I get it.

So yeah, I, I forgot the question.

[laughs] Well, Gary Cherone.

[laughs] I forgot the fucking words.

Um, I've seen Van Halen probably seven or eight times in various incarnations.

I even saw one incarnation with Gary Cherone.

So if it's Van Halen, I have it in my phone, I have it in my heart.

Uh, we've recently just, I think yesterday or the day before, it was the anniversary of Eddie Van Halen's passing.
