They do classic celebrity-style stories that are fun to read and hold up over time.

Throughout the month of September, shows around Gary Carlson, people who worked with him, know him, to honor his contributions to the comic book industry as a whole.

So, Dan, when did you first connect with Gary Carlson during the 1980s? And what was the Midwest indie scene when Megatown was coming together?

He makes all the words matter, and I think you'll enjoy this show.

But to kick off the anniversary shows, I brought back Gary Carlson, who was also the first anniversary guest.

Now, Gary and Chris Eckert, with their Big Bang Comics, have been putting out comics for over 30 years.

Their stories are very classic golden and silver age style that new fans and older fans will really enjoy.

What Gary doesn't know that also throughout the month I have been bringing on guests who know and worked with Gary.

I had a show with Chris Eckert and more shows coming out, and we all kind of felt that Gary doesn't rec- get the recognition he should for his contributions to the comic book industry.

And that's part of the anniversary celebration, a celebration of Gary Carlson.

Throughout the month of September, I'm bringing past guests and new guests on the show, and I'm also bringing guests on to honor the legacy of Gary Carlson, who started off the fifth anniversary shows, and his contributions to comic books, Big Bang Comics and whatever.

And today, Chris Ecker has graciously given me his time.

Chris, as a first time guest, always like to know the guest's origin story.

And that just started me on a road to loving comics in any form.

I always aspired to be a newspaper comic artist, but that, I had, I flirted with that now and then.

In fact, with Gary Carlson, he and I very nearly had a syndicated strip.

But the syndicate chose another strip over ours.

And September marks the fifth anniversary of the podcast, and throughout the month I am bringing back some of my favorite guests and bringing on some new guests I've always wanted on the show.

Way back for the first anniversary, I brought Gary Carlson on.

I'm not even sure how or why I connected with him, and admittedly, I don't always do a fantastic job of learning more about a guest before I decide to bring them on the podcast.

Sometimes after they agree to come onto the podcast, then I realize exactly who that person is, and sometimes I get a little nervous, because sometimes they're bigger than I expected.

Now, what Gary doesn't know is that throughout the month I'm also bringing on guests who know or worked with Gary.

Out in a couple days is a show with Chris Eckert, and that's just the start.

But one thing everybody agreed on, Gary doesn't get the recognition he should for his contributions to comic book industry, and that's part of the anniversary celebration, a celebration of Gary Carlson.
