I'm gonna be honest, when I first watched the episode back in the good old days, uh, I could not figure it out.

I couldn't figure out that Garnet was a fusion.

I, yeah, I know literally last episode was like, "If you don't know by now-

And we see this in the movie, too, with him just kind of being resistant to gem tech because of the human side.

Yeah, which is really cool, and I like the detail.

Like, we, we see the, like in the last episode, Garnet got, like, torn into pieces basically.

Yeah.

Pearl was like, Garnet, I'm sorry.

And Amethyst stepped up for Pearl.

Yeah.

And Amethyst was like, Garnet, you don't understand.

You're so much stronger than us that, like, you know, that, like, you know, we want to feel just a fraction of that power.

So I feel like they should have been able to...

Because he's like, "Garnet, Amethyst, Pearl, I know they expect something big of me."

They're, by the way, while he's doing this whole, "Garnet, Amethyst, Pearl, I, they all expect," they all appear in their own, like, giant-ass Mufasa v- version, you know?

but it, it was a comic of, like, Rose being like, "Hey, Garnet, you know, do you have any predictions about, like, what my future kid's gonna be like?" And, like, in this comic the idea was that Rose didn't realize she had to give up her physical form yet.

let me let me pull two characters and maybe we can explore them for a quick second here and see if it provides me illumination Paul versus Garnet We know that within Garnet from Steven Universe, Sapphire and Ruby, who are the two individuals that fuse together to create Garnet, continue to have interactions between the two of them as individuals that are distinct but integrated with Garnet as a unique individual.

Right.

they remain distinct individuals within their shared, you know, generation.

We have one model of how that kind of could operate because knowing that, you know, the thing that we're supposed to notice and is special about Paul is that this was an agreed upon, this was a peaceful agreed upon, you know, union in a way that doesn't align with empirical goals, right? which is, I think, to me, the parallel with Garnet.

So my question then is, do Pal and Camilla hang out? Because hallucinations interacting with each other is a very interesting thing to think about.

Is Garnet hallucinating Ruby and Sapphire interacting specifically while Garnet exists?

Yeah, the thing that I'm pointing to is within the sort of bounds of the universe as it's been presented to us, this is a really ambiguous scene that it's not clear whether this is a real thing that's happening or a purely subjective sort of pathological or a purely illusory thing or like metaphysically, it's not clear what's happening.

he runs back to the gems with greg um and yeah they shoot the cannon and it's all of the gems like rose and uh and Pearl and Garnet and Amethyst, which is kind of weird, too, because like the the cannons were made before Amethyst was born.
