Gardiners Island

He was captured, tried for piracy and executed in London in 1701.

Before his capture, he is known to have buried a relatively small amount of treasure on Gardiner's Island, off the eastern tip of Long Island, New York.

That treasure was recovered and used as evidence against him at his trial.

The theory proposes that Kidd buried a much larger cache on Oak Island, the proceeds of his piracy, hidden against the day when he might need it.
