Garantex

Right.

For example, in March 2025, authorities seized a major Russia-linked crypto exchange called Garantex.

But almost overnight, the operators spun up a near identical successor called Grinex, based in Kyrgyzstan.

The money just migrated over and the machine kept humming.

But what she does is she has reserves of cryptocurrency and she has accounts with cryptocurrency exchanges.

You know, some of the Russian exchanges that have been sanctioned, Garantex, etc., you know, are useful for this.

So she's able to absorb that huge amount of cryptocurrency and effectively give back the ransomware gang money.

probably rubles, maybe dollars, depending on where they're spending them.

Ekaterina has then the reverse problem.

She's now crypto rich.

But again, she's looking to kind of work out where she can move this money because yes, it's moved into Garantex and she's managed to sort of wash it through Garantex.

Again, it's the accusation against her.
