Game Changer

Hello, and welcome to the introduction for Podcast But Outside, episode 234.

[instrumental music] This episode was expertly guest hosted by Sam Reich, who is the head of Dropout and hosts Game Changer on that amazing network of shows.

Go check out Dropout at dropout.tv if you haven't.

[laughs]

Well?

What do you think? Your whole thing is such elaborate planning on Game Changer, uh, that I was like, "Oh, I feel bad that he's doing a show where the entire premise is do not plan anything." [laughs]

Oh, this is, I love this kind of stuff.

He's been a teacher and performer at UCB New York and LA for years.

And you, of course, know him from a bunch of dropout shows like Make Some Noise, Game Changer, and, of course, as the DM of Dimension 20.

Those of you who are familiar with Dimension 20 know that he is one of the most skilled improvisers on the planet, and this is a phenomenal episode for breaking down improv, comedy, his process as a DM, and 30 to 40 other topics.

In the first half, we cover his origin story and a lot of his teaching philosophies.

Yeah! Ready for a game changer! Tonight's episode, let's give it another spin! It's Roulette 2! Dancing a bit like you're Mr.

Bit Guy! It's Earwigs! And me and my boss saw two pigs and a dog in Topeka, Kansas! With What's the Catch? And your host, me! I've been here the whole time! This is the Niche Podcast about the one thing that I know something about.

Game shows, I suppose.

I hope this gets uploaded.

If not, I'm sad.

This is the last thing I'm doing at my house, and it's talking about Game Changer.

Before we get to just recapping this most recent season of Game Changer, I gotta come clean right now.

The reason I was doing this recap is it was the only thing that kept me whole this whole time.

Yeah, we'll absolutely – I'm seeing again tomorrow.

On to the Megala episode of Game Changer, sir.

You talked about Kumail.

Well, we got more Kumail.

Or

was it hour 29, hour and 35, or something like that? I can't remember.

It's a long Game Changer episode.

Yeah.

Yeah, ready for a game changer.

Retrospective, tonight's episodes.

You have 365 days.

I don't know if it's a good idea.

My mom passed away and it's very sad.

Game Changer as a show really did make me feel happy.

Of all the game shows during the pandemic, since 2019, 2020...

Not a lot of them have really cheered me up.

No, not the American version of Taskmaster, which was butchered by Comedy Central and we will never speak of it again.

I'm talking about Game Changer, a web-based show on the Dropout TV network.

The show is set up as a panel game show with different rules every episode designed to exasperate the comedian contestants while giving them a platform to entertain.

I was surprised to see that the canon has never inducted an episode of Game Changer going 0 for 1 so far.

And so for that reason, I'm going to nominate Season 7, Episode 11, titled Samurai Madingdaw.

This episode, which closed its most recent season, turns the tables on the host, creator, and head tormentor Sam Reich from Cambridge Mass.

Click one.

Ha ha ha! Get ready for a Change Gamer! Tonight's guest, the CEO of Satanism, the host of Humiliation, it's Sam Reich! No! And your host for today, me.

[upbeat music] Yeah, ready for a Game Changer retrospective.

Tonight's episodes, second place is the first winner.

It's second place.

The only way to win is by learning, and the only way to begin is by beginning.

So without further ado, let's begin.

Season 6 of Game Changer is in my life personally when things really, uh, took heart.

Um, this is the part where my mom was in the hospital very frequently.

At this point, um, there was no stability in this life, this house or anything.

They got Dimension 20.

They've got Game Changer.

Every new season of Game Changer, I wonder how they could possibly be better than last season.

And it is.

A new season of Make Some Noise just got teased.
