Gabriel Dax

His novel, Any Human Heart, was long listed for the Booker Prize and was made into a four-part series starring Matthew McFadgen and Jim Broadbent.

He's written a number of espionage novels, including Solo, a Bond novel, and has now written a trilogy of spy books in which our hero is Gabriel Dax.

He's a travel writer in the 1960s and becomes an agent of the beautiful and mercurial Faith Green, a senior MI6 officer.

The book features a number of 1960s events, including the assassinations of JFK and Patrice Lumumba, the coup in Guatemala, and Cold War defections.

His latest is Cold Sunset, and by now Gabriel Dax is a seasoned spy, but he faces betrayal at home.

William joins me to chat about spywriting, Le Carre,

TV adaptations, and plenty more, so I hope you enjoy our discussion.

I left it open and we were only at 1964.

My name is Shane Whaley and I'm delighted to bring you today a conversation with author William Boyd.

And many of us are huge fans of his work and of late, particularly the Gabriel Dax trilogy.

Now, a good friend of Spibery, Oliver Webb Carter, who hosts the epic and highly recommended History Book Club podcast, had a conversation with William, and he's kindly sent it across to us because he knows how much Spiberians will enjoy this chat.

They get into why William Boyd loves reading spy fiction, the influence of John le Carre, the real-life inspiration behind his character Faith Green, who I know has a lot of admirers in the spyberry community.

They riff on Cold War, espionage, JFK, and how an abandoned television project eventually helped give us gabriel dax so there's plenty to enjoy here a big thank you to ollie and to william and you can find ollie's podcast and if you want to order the books if you haven't already you can find the show notes at spyberry.com forward slash three one two do
