G-Fest

So I think that it kept it alive and built a certain fandom in the interim.

And when they first started doing G-Fest in the 90s, I read that the people in Japan were kind of surprised.

Like, whoa, they didn't know there was this audience here for it.

They just thought, you know...

So, but just filling holes in the collection.

When I went to G-Fest just recently, which is the annual God's Will Convention in Chicago, the first night they didn't have anything going on.

So my buddy said, there's a Rush tribute band out here.

Let's go watch it.

The Godzilla Convention.

Well, I will tell you of a convention that I didn't get to go to, but I will probably go with a friend of mine when he goes next.

My friend Chris went to G-Fest in Chicago, and that's Godzilla Fest, so it's a Godzilla convention, and I got to live vicariously through him, looking at his photos and hearing his stories about that and everything, and I was like, man, I really want to go to that.

That would have been great.

But timing just was really bad for me.

So listeners out there, get ready for that episode in October with a lot of related I Am Legend talk.

And once I got this Godzilla oral history book, Kaiju Unleashed, that came out a couple of years ago, she's just all into us.

We go to G-Fest and all that.

So whenever we go to the comic shop, she's like, we need a new Godzilla comic.

And I'm like, hold on a

Megumi Kobayashi who played mall, the fairy in the rebirth of Mothra trilogy.

We had Yoshikazu Ishii who, uh, shows up to G-Fest all the time, but he's always a really cool dude.

Um, special effects guy on a lot of the Millennium Godzilla films, and also he's been making a lot of independent kaiju films lately.

Keone Young, who's a voice actor known for stuff like G.I. Joe, he had a role in Ultraman Rising and Godzilla Singular Point.

I am just an old man that doesn't quite understand...

some of those things.

I have a conspiracy theory about this, because for a long time they weren't announcing anybody, and then the first guest that they announced is Mewling Tea, and the second was Keone Young, who feel very, very random until you remember that both of them have been guests at Kaiju Brooklyn prior to G-Fest.

So I do kind of wonder if they were copying homework a little bit there.
