But every Sunday my whole life, I'm 44 years old, I've been in church.

I used to lie under the pews on Sunday nights at Paradise Community Church, picking the colorful Blu-Tack off underneath the seats.

[laughs] And I've seen two responses that are both unhealthy when it comes to identity.

One is when the church sees people, when we see people for the function or the role that they, they fulfill.

There is something particularly meaningful about joining a party founded here in South Australia in 2003 by the late Andrew Evans, with a vision of ensuring families had a voice in politics.

I never had the privilege of knowing Andrew, although some members in this place did, and recently I attended an event at Futures Church, which Andrew founded, and I was struck by the genuine sense of community and service.

More than two decades after Andrew Evans started Family First, I now find myself standing in this chamber as a Family First member, continuing that same fight to give families a voice.

I am proudly pro-life from conception and Family First is the only party that is pro-life from conception I believe parents matter.

I have these memories of lying under and picking the blue tack from underneath the seats, that wonderful flavoured blue tack.
