I think that's going to be really interesting.
David BloomHOST
15:07
What is future PLC going to do? What is future PLC going to do? They have no future.
David BloomHOST
15:12
What do you mean? Well, because they're always doing like, you know, top 40 women on TV or whatever.
David BloomHOST

Dave.
Daniel FrankelHOST
31:14
I better call them back.
Daniel FrankelHOST

What I also didn't get invited to is, and I never was when I worked for Future PLC for their Broadcasting Plus Cable group, was the Hall of Fame Awards, which was during the lifespan of a 93-year-old trade publication, Broadcasting and Cable, a fairly interesting event voted on by the editors of Broadcasting and Cable who were very much in touch with the Broadcasting and Cable industry.
David BloomHOST
31:38

Marat GazievGUEST
23:09
I can't speak too much about certainly sort of some of the specific deals or monetization practices we have in place.
Marat GazievGUEST
23:18
You could take a look at like Future PLC.
Marat GazievGUEST
23:22
They've published a lot or talked a lot about this.
Marat GazievGUEST
23:27
So you could take a look at their, I believe their Q4 earnings call, their investor call was really illuminating and really interesting.
Daniel WhelanHOST
10:44
So yeah, like quite a lot of gaming magazines.
Daniel WhelanHOST
10:46
Is Edge a future publishing? Edge is a
Adam JuniperGUEST
10:48
future, yeah.
Adam JuniperGUEST
10:50
Yeah, lovely posters of Edge on the wall in the office if I go in.
Simon ParkinHOST
11:30
I was just fully, fully into that.
Simon ParkinHOST
11:32
That's how I got into games media, was I was an avid reader of Edge, and I pitched an idea for a magazine to Future Publishing, the parent company of Edge.
Simon ParkinHOST
11:43
Um, and I wrote to them.
Simon ParkinHOST
11:45
I had an idea for a games magazine that would essentially be Record Collector except for video games.
Piers Cook-AntonsonGUEST

Albeit, being on the hunt, on the chase was something that I really enjoyed, and that's not dissimilar to sales, quite frankly.
Piers Cook-AntonsonGUEST
0:58
So from there I went into Future publishing.
Piers Cook-AntonsonGUEST
1:01
I actually found this, this company myself.
Piers Cook-AntonsonGUEST
1:03
I didn't know what Future publishing was, but I knew that sales and the commercial understanding of the newspaper and magazines business was something that I would have to do.
Piers Cook-AntonsonGUEST
1:11
That is how I ended up in media sales.
Piers Cook-AntonsonGUEST
1:14
I did that for 10 years.
Piers Cook-AntonsonGUEST
4:09
Use your talents.
Piers Cook-AntonsonGUEST

You could be really, really good at this business, but you need to be laser-focused on it." And I think, you know, when I look at Claire, how long has she been there now? Her career has been, I mean, sh- it's one of the longest careers in our industry, so that was really good advice.
Jeff RugglesHOST
28:30
One of the few occasions where a mini has had to be recovered.
Jeff RugglesHOST
28:33
And this was back when I was working at Future Publishing and we had a workshop about 20 miles from my house.
Jeff RugglesHOST
28:40
So they recovered me back to the workshop so that I could leave the car there, jump in my trusty Ibiza and go home.
Jeff RugglesHOST
28:46
This is about one in the morning and it was minus seven.
Gary PennGUEST

And it was a magazine called Zap 64, very influential magazine.
Gary PennGUEST

And then moved on to a few other things, like The One, and I worked at Future Publishing and Omega Power, Edge, and all sorts of stuff like that, PC format.
Gary PennGUEST

You sort of end up learning about the process of doing something, getting something done within a time scale and within a budget scale and within all the limitations.
Gary PennGUEST
0:50
You learn about getting stuff done, which in and of itself is something that's kind of almost anathema to video games development, where it's ready when it's ready or it keeps going, it keeps going, it keeps going.
