So, yeah, Hitler loved art so much that the Nazis were planning this huge museum in Linz, Austria, close to where Hitler was born.

So in this, most of the cases, what happened is that, you know, the art was stolen during the war by the Nazis.
Mari-Claudia JimenezGUEST

Sometimes it was stolen officially because people like Hermann Goering or Adolf Hitler actually liked certain things and, you know, went and sought them out because they wanted to put them in the Fuhrer Museum, which was this master museum of perfect aryan art that he was creating um in some cases they were just sort of like ad hoc thefts where you know people who were in the government or just sort of pressured people to give things up knowing that they had no real leverage and then what would happen is that during the war the allies kind of their mandate was they were intended to essentially bring all the art back to the central country where they believe it was taken from but they didn't have any restitution mandate they weren't trying to get you know x painting back to y owner They just sort of rounded it all up and said, okay, here are 33,000 paintings, Holland.
