Front Range

When you look at how Colorado votes, on a county-by-county level, the divisions are clear.

Most of the blue counties are clustered in urban areas along the Front Range and a strip through the mountains with big resort and second-home communities.

The rest of Colorado, the Eastern Plains and the Western Slope, very red and often very rural.

Colorado Democrats are hoping to change that pattern by convincing rural voters to give their party another look, but they face an upward climb.

Hmm.

I think the big example is the reintroduction of the gray wolf.

You know, many rural communities were against the idea being put on the ballot, and even more upset when it actually passed, mostly with support from the Front Range.

Now, I heard about this from Jonathan Houck, a Democratic county commissioner in Gunnison County.

And so not a season ending, but, uh, more than likely we'll take him out of the game this weekend and, um, yeah, that's unfortunate 'cause he, he was doing some really good things.

And then just wanted to ask you, you touched on, you know, when you played at the old Hughes Stadium back in the day on the Front Range, what are your memories of those BYU Colorado State meetings with Lavell and Sonny Lubick? Just what, what do you, what do you remember of those, some of those games that you, you played in?

What are your memories of those BYU-Colorado State meetings with Lavelle and Sonny Lubick? What do you remember of some of those games that you played in?

You know what's crazy is those games were always competitive, but I just remember – I remember the environment.

But the phraseology adopted for the proration in which the history of these buried lands is set forth must leave the uninformed reader in some doubt as to the precise nature of the facts and inferences there presented.

A simpler statement is given for the plateau-like highlands of crystalline schists flanked by upturned sedimentaries in the Colorado Front Range, which has made a, quote, deep impression on Powell when he crossed them in his first western journey in eighteen sixty-seven.

Do you think urbanites, and do you think Denver water gets a bad rap?

Well, there's a lot of history with water in Colorado, as you know, and a lot of tension in the relationship between the Front Range and the Western Slope, and a lot of tension in the r- the economic realities of living in a city and living in rural Colorado.

I think it's important, as you kind of point out, a- about 80% of the water use in Colorado is agriculture.

So does that mean agriculture should take a bigger, uh, hit in a drought? Mother nature's harder for agriculture because the hydrology is what farmers and ranchers, you know, rely on, as we all do, and even though we're more efficient in the, uh, use of water, 2% versus 80, I wanna be very careful not to point a finger at agriculture because farmers and ranchers have to plan for the future.

They make investments in the land based on the crops that they're gonna grow, and the economic return on that is very much part of their calculation.

People in the Front Range like to eat as well.

Yeah.
