And I think the early Ian Fleming books are actually pretty good.

I think Casino Royale and From Russia With Love hold up extremely well, for instance, as books written in a kind of heightened journalistic style, which is the definition that Anthony Burgess gave to Fleming's approach to writing.

And I really got into it after that.

So partly it was the literature.

I just finished off yesterday, well, to preface this one, a couple weeks ago I read and was talking about the first James Bond novel, Casino Royale, and I said it wasn't very good.

So I jumped in a little later into his things, into one of JFK's top ten books from Russia with Love.

And guys,

it doesn't get much better.
