Frightened Rabbit

No, this is not negative, but it is hovering around death.

I, I, I really loved Scott Hutchison of Frightened Rabbit, um, who of course is no longer with us.

And I met him, the first time I met Scott, was a very young music journalist, and I was sent to interview him.

And I loved, I, I loved Frightened Rabbit then, I love them now.

And I was asking all these very bad questions-

And so much of my influences are sort of Scottish folk, sort of contemporary Scottish folk is a huge part of my influence, especially sort of newer folk.

rockier folk like like bands like Frightened Rabbit that I was obsessed with growing up there sort of had as you say this heart of folk but and then sort of experimented sort of in and out of that I think like to me I literally cannot write a song where the core isn't acoustic guitar and vocal and that be the absolute spine of that song and where the rest of the song grows from so I suppose that's probably the most where I connect to folk music the most.

like this, I mean this truly is like one of my best friends now, I didn't know him that well at the time and I remember just listening to like Frightened Reckless and Bill Iverson and Frightened Rabbit being one of my biggest inspirations in my whole career and I remember writing this song that's like, I fit all of the band names, I put all of the bands that were on that line into this song I wrote and one of the lines was singing all these songs I don't know why, the epic Libertines.

And it was like this line and it's so odd to like, seven years later, be like, oh I'm calling the Libertines.

Oh yeah, maybe you're having lunch in the canteen together.

Okay.

So this song is written by Frightened Rabbit, or is released by Frightened Rabbit, written by Scott Hutchison, who sadly passed away by suicide in, I wish I could, it was a while ago now, but Probably 2017, 2018-ish.

And following his death, a bunch of artists who had at some point covered his songs, worked with him in the past, etc., covered a bunch of his stuff into an EP called Tiny Changes, and then released it as a celebration of Frightened Rabbit's best album, Midnight Organ Fight.

And including...

There's some... cool ones like i think ben gibbard does one and sarah silverman does a song on the on the album and stuff too but uh this one's by a like uh if you don't know like biffy clara is like a uk they've been around since the 90s they're they're like popular there they've gone platinum they've like charted at like number one or number two or something in the uk but they're not like super overseas popular um but this song this cover like compared to the original is wildly different uh it somehow it's like aggressive and um i really like the original uh but this is like i'm i don't know why for some reason this is one that also is like so produced in the coolest way and it changes genre throughout the song that it makes it feel this like small thing feels so uh very epic to me in a bizarre and cool mashup of sounds where i'm like uh it's very rare that I'm like the production of the song is the thing that makes it hit really well for me.

Yeah, it's so interesting because I, my brain was just like running a million miles a minute, like listening to this because Quinn turned me on to Frightened Rabbit like several years back.
