I'm not supposed to feel for Freddie Lounds, but like the terror in this performance is really good.

No, I mean, he's the hard as nails badass for James Cameron.

It's kind of interesting, too, because this is pretty much the strategy that was employed, again, in the movie Red Dragon by Will Graham and the FBI's office to try and get the Tooth Fairy to show himself.

And they used the reporter, Freddie Lounds, to do it.

So what they're doing here is they're stroking his ego.

They're telling him, look, you're not as swift as you think you are.

But before we can get to that fireworks factory, which upends the entire show, there's some table-clearing and tying up of loose ends as everyone sniffs the faint smell of impending doom in the air and tries to set their affairs in order.

So first we get Will chatting to Freddie Lounds, the craven tabloid journalist and frequent nemesis.

The two have reached a twisted detente after collaborating on her false murder as part of the plan to gain Hannibal's trust, and Will has a final request in clip one.

But uh-oh, Hannibal takes a big old sniff of Will.

Whomst among us, et cetera.

And with his magic Epicurean/European nose powers, detects the lingering scent of Freddie Lounds and knows that Will is full of shit.

Despite that, he still gives Will an out as they share a lamb dinner later, offering forgiveness from the deception if they just leave town together then and there.
