Billy Wilder is so smart, he put a huge mirror at the bottom of the pool, then filled the pool with water, floated William Holden, and then just shot the image on the mirror.

But on the other hand, we're also completely saturated and permeated by orchestral music through video games and film, and a, and a, and a very specific type of orchestral music that's happened in the last 60 years.

The key proponent of that being, uh, John Williams, th- the composer who did all the, uh, Star Wars soundtracks, et cetera, which is also a reference to 1930s Golden Age Hollywood, Franz Waxman, uh, Korngold, and so on and so on.

And there's, there's an understanding of orchestral music in the popular imagination, but it is not the understanding of modernist music, say, of Boulez or Stockhausen, but of a very much a sort of post Viennese symphonic tradition.

But it's, but it's, but it's a thing.

The movie's production values are commendable, with Delma Dave's making effective use of the submarine's cramped spaces to create a sense of claustrophobia and tension.

The black-and-white cinematography by Burt Glennon adds to the film's gritty realism, while Franz Waxman's stirring score enhances the emotional impact of key scenes.
