Foxing

So I think there was sort of like a sea change there.

And then as far as ending it, the final album that the book talks about is the album Nearer My God by Foxing, which came out in 2018.

And I think that album really symbolizes sort of how far this generation of bands could go artistically.

There was kind of a bit of an artistic arms race going on.

I feel like, to me...

I might have even put in the book that, like, bands like The World Is and Foxing and Hotelier, especially a bit later, would really more... accurately be called, like, post-emo than emo revival.

And I don't mean that in the way that, like, Pop Mulligan says it or something.

Good band, I just don't mean it that way.

And now it sounds more like home and, and my buddy Valentine and Sonic youth and stuff.

Yeah.

I've thought to, not to jump ahead from, uh, It's too far, but everything about Foxing and the hotelier being sort of rivals.

Actually, a lot of stuff in here that ends up being about...

But that was two people and it wasn't enough.

And then I will wrap up with Foxing's Nearer My God.

Similar to Harmlessness, just like this total art rock, crazy, ambitious thing.

People have called it the OK Computer of the emo revival.

It is the album my book ends with because I think it really represents and symbolizes kind of the ceiling that emo, fourth wave emos sort of like drive to be taken seriously by the indie rock community.

Yeah.

It was like Foxing just put all their blood, sweat and tears into this fantastic record that people who liked Radiohead and TV on the radio and Sufjan Stevens and all this stuff should have loved.

And it's like the indie world was just like, sorry, you're not in Dead Oceans.

Honestly, I like it to be kind of like meant for interpretation.

But the origin of the name is quite literally just a song that I grew up listening to called Night Channels by this band called Foxing.

And it's just a beautiful song, kind of builds up, you know, and it's a song that I really connected to.

And I saw that No Name, you know, No Band was called Night Channels.
