Founder's syndrome

And then I discovered that's a part of the puzzle, but obviously not the whole puzzle.

And while I was working in the nonprofit sector is when I encountered Founder Syndrome.

So I actually didn't coin the term.

It existed long before me.

So then I got an offer to do my PhD.

I moved to Barcelona and after that.

Got an offer to do my PhD and then in, yeah, in founder syndrome.

And I initially was studying it in the nonprofit sector.

I mean, I've had passion before, but I guess not to this level.

So that's an amazing thing as I look back at it now, how far I've come, right? the sad thing, the disgusting thing, right? And this is, I talk about this in a whole different podcast format, but there's something that happens to founders, CEOs, even any business leader, and it's called founder syndrome.

And basically, excuse me, not getting into it, but founder syndrome is when someone obviously builds something, in this case, I built Sleep and Heavenly Peace, And I become so ingrained and infused with the company, right? You become one with it, right? People know SHP because of Luke and people know Luke because of SHP, right? Your identity, what's called identity fusion happens.

Well, when a company grows and an organization grows, right? Well, like anything, it evolves.

So does the organization evolves, right? You get new leadership structure.

And as selfish and maybe egotistical or whatever you want to call it, as that seems...

As a founder, that is extremely, I can't even tell you, it's extremely painful.

And there are people that commit suicide because they react poorly to these feelings that come from founder syndrome.

Let's talk about the silent killer of family wealth transitions.

Founder syndrome.

You've built something incredible.

You've made every major decision for decades.

You know the business better than anyone.

And now you're supposed to just let go? That's founder syndrome.

And it destroys more succession plans than almost any other single factor.

Here's what it looks like.
