Formula of Concord

Then, said the writers of the Formula of Concord, one of the Lutheran confessions, there's a third use of the law, and the third use of the law is for Christians only, and that's as a directive to what God's will is in living out the Christian life.

Calvin made much more of that than the Lutherans did, but it's in our Formula of Concord that there is such a function.

Now, Mike tells me that even though Calvin wrote in the Institutes that the third use of the law is the major use of the law in the Bible, that he and others don't really hold to that in the way that it sounds.

I think they do, but he says he doesn't.
