Forlorn hope

Once the wall has been smashed, two forlorn hopes will charge, try and get into the breach, just hold the breach.

whilst the rest of the army, so Baird, the Forlorn Hope are going to go, then Major General Baird and his men, Colonel Wellesley after that.

I might just explain what a Forlorn Hope is, just in case anyone might have forgotten.

A Forlorn Hope is essentially, as it says in the name, a forlorn hope of survival.

It is a suicide mission that essentially guarantees death.

The odds of survival are basically none, usually leading the charge up a breached enemy wall fortification.

And you're expected you may well all die.

Which is why the rewards for surviving it are so great, because they never have to give them out, because most people usually die.
