Forever Amber

We sought out Mr. Lee Weber, the manager of the bookshop, to ascertain the mysterious link between it and Doubleday.

He told us that Silly Putty is the most horrific item the Doubleday shops have been privileged to handle since Forever Amber.

Sales immediately went through the roof, with Hodgins selling over 250,000 eggs in only three days.

But just as silly putties seem poised to become a runaway hit, world events intervene.

Well, don't feel too bad for Peggy Cummins, though, because a few years later, she knocks our socks off in Gun Crazy 1950, where she plays the ultimate film fatale.

And honestly, I think more people love and appreciate Gun Crazy today than anybody does Forever Amber.

The casting of Darnell for that film seemed perfect.

Amber was beautiful and ambitious, sensual, determined to climb from poverty into the upper reaches of Restoration England.

Darnell had already demonstrated that she could play women who used beauty as a weapon.

Well, Fox surrounded her with these elaborate sets, magnificent costumes, technicolor photography, and a huge PR campaign.

But Forever Amber became one of those Hollywood productions where expectations were almost impossible.

possible to satisfy.
