Ford Escort RS Cosworth

Well, I absolutely loved it.

I only drove a Sapphire Cosworth once and won the York National in it, and I drove an Escort Cosworth on the Manx and had a good result in that.

I would love a Group A, not WRC Escort, a Group A Escort Cosworth would be my sort of ultimate dream.

An ex-works car, you know what I mean, that type of spec.

Those cars with the big restrictors in were just, I never had a chance to drive Group B cars.

it won't be long before the Roger Albert Clark is allowing cars like that in historic categories.

So, you never know.

Chris Birkbeck in a Group A Escort Cosworth versus Johnny Milner in a 205 GTI, perhaps.

It's like, yes, okay.

So if you'd said to someone, you know, 30 years ago, "Oh, by the way, you'll just be able to buy a fairly ordinary looking Audi that's got, um, a lot more power than Escort Cosworth." You'd go, "Well, why, why, why would that be a thing?" But, you know, I guess it also weighs a lot more than Escort Cosworth, so there we go.

Anyway, I mean, it looks quite nice.

But it was maybe a Lamborghini contest, but it wasn't really hypercars and supercars back then.

It was things like Ford Cosworths and stuff and rally cars, you know, because that was attainable to the everyday average person that if you worked hard, you might be able to buy a fast Ford.

And of course, Ford have built a lot of cars here and they've got a rich production heritage and still do make stuff a lot in Europe and not what they used to.

But still, for me, I'm thousands of miles away.

They kind of look like...

Know what they look like to me? A Volkswagen Corrado had sex with an Escort Cosworth rally car.

Consensually.

Kind of.

And £900, and that got me a Sierra.

Right, so the Sierra was £23.50. came with a cosy kit um uh two liter twin cam like to buy that car now the way it would have been then it's probably seven grand yeah you know just that's just the way they've went and my whole plan with that sierra was i'll just give you the full story my whole plan if i don't forget or run into extra tangents so the whole plan with that sierra was and if you've you'll have heard this in our own podcast if you listen to me as well but anyway if you haven't I always kind of loved that, felt a Sierra Cosworth, but Escort Cosworth wheels style, kind of just low, two litre twin cam, diff life out of it.

And like, so when I got that car, I was like, yeah, can't wait.

And got it like 2015, tail end of 2015.

I don't have the best luck really, but oh well, you know what happens.

The one car I was a little bit disappointed in was the white Ford Escort Cosworth because it wasn't the fastest over the weekend, but that is the car of my youth.

That is the car that everybody wanted in the 90s.
