Flask

At this point, I was working somewhere else.

And a bunch of early Disqus people, and Armin Ronacher, who's employee number one, who created Flask, of course.

And so that's kinda ha- my path there.

Now, there's more to that, which is Disqus was this embedded, like, um, JavaScript commenting widget.

And it's fine if you want to write your code on the front end in JavaScript.

But if you want to leverage the things that are really nice about Django or Flask or whatever you're writing against, and just Python in general, well, then it kind of undermines that, right?

Yeah, and it allows you to stay in the batteries included world, especially with Django.

Like all the HTML filters and helpers that are built in to Django, the framework, are all still very useful with a tool like this.

just take your Flask or your Jenga or whatever, and you just say, now run here.

And they just, Granion talks WSGI or ASGI to that thing, and it's transparent.

It's beautiful.

I don't know.

Emmet does the same.

It's the one thing I copied from Flask because I really like it.

But I think we can do the same argument about database, right? With a synchronous database, you have to start the context.

But your mileage may vary.

There are plenty of Python lovers out there, folks that like Flask, Django, and all that good stuff.

So yeah, your mileage may vary.

But if you were to go with one or the other, or excuse me, if you had to go with an option, I would choose something that is more mainstream and a little bit less exotic.

But I'm flexible.

As I mentioned, my co-founder, AJ, is a Python lover.

So they really enjoy Flask and I'm not sure so much Django.

But yeah.

Well, in, at the University of the West Indies, for our, um, second year web course, we teach, uh, Flask.

And for that you use Python as programming language, Jinja as the template and framework, and you know how to, and you learn how to do a dynamic web application that way using, um, Postgres as a, as a database backend, right?
