I mean, it's no accident that the 1890s saw Americans begin to recite the Pledge of Allegiance and celebrate Flag Day.

And what better way

Part of the Beast is the must-see adventure of the year.

The American flag is called the Star-Spangled Banner, the Stars and Stripes, the Red, White, and Blue, and Old Glory.

To emphasize the importance of the American flag to the nation and its people, Congress established June 14th of each year as Flag Day.

On this day Americans take special notice of the flag and reflect on its meaning.

Motto of the United States On July 30, 1956, President Dwight D. Eisenhower approved a joint resolution of the 84th Congress officially establishing the phrase, In God We Trust, as the national motto of the United States.

So we'll see, you know, what kind of questions they're lobbing up tomorrow.

And then Mitch McConnell, is he coming back this week? You know, he had a fall back on June 14th, Flag Day, President Trump's birthday.

Yeah.

Then, of course, he got pneumonia afterwards.

Uh, I actually loved the UFC fights at the White House on June 14th.

That was on Flag Day.

Part of what was so cool about that is it was civic ritual.

So between each fight, 150 million people watching from around the world, and between each fight they were playing videos.

They played, in fact, Reagan's entire Flag Day speech from 40 years ago.

They played all kinds of clips that were montages of great presidential quotes, including President Reagan's quote that we need an informed patriotism.

So there was just all this cool stuff happening during the fights that night.

It's always a producer's dream to combine a great play with two such stars as Ingrid Bergman and Robert Montgomery, whom we bring back to the footlights for a curtain call.

This being Flag Day, I might risk a pun and say you both came through with flying colors.

This case also went to the Supreme Court, which found in Barnett's favor, overturning Minersville versus Gobitis.

This six-three decision was announced on June 14th, 1943, which was Flag Day.

The majority opinion was authored by Justice Robert H. Jackson, and it's considered to be one of Jackson's most important opinions.

Jackson wrote, quote, "The freedom asserted by these appelees does not bring them into collision with the rights asserted by any other individual.

And it is Allied hope of victory that our participation has inflamed and augmented.

The president's Flag Day address marks, without a doubt, the collapse of American strategy.

That address, coupled with the hints of effective readjustments in the note to Russia, implies that America is ready to pour out endless blood and treasure, not to the end of a negotiated peace, but to the utter crushing of the central powers, to their dismemberment and political annihilation.

The war is pictured in that address as a struggle to the death against the military empire of Middle Europa.

Our strategy has gradually become indistinguishable from that of the Allies.

With the arrival of the British mission, our independent basis became a polite fiction.

The President's Flag Day address merely registers the collapse of American strategy.

All this the realistic pacifists foresaw when they held out so bitterly and unaccountably against our entering the war.

Buffalo school teacher Sarah Henson taught her students to salute the flag and recite the Pledge of Allegiance.

She held the first Flag Day ceremony in 1891.

Other teachers and schools began the same practice and the idea caught on.

Sarah was humbled and proud when in 1916 President Woodrow Wilson made Flag Day on June 14th a national holiday.

Yale-educated William Rogers convinced his friend John Albright that the waterfront south of Buffalo would be an excellent location for a steel mill to receive its raw materials from the Great Lakes.

They recruited Lackawanna Steel from Pennsylvania to relocate in 1900, with Bethlehem Steel buying the company in 1922.
