Five Hundred Arhats

When the party approached the inner doors, they saw the Buddha's grand hall.

Outside the doors of the hall and below the Buddha's dais sat the 500 Arhats, 3,000 guardians, the four Vajra warriors, the eight Bodhisattvas, and countless Buddhist nuns, lay devotees, holy monks, and other hangers-on.

Splendid flowers and fragrant offerings were everywhere while auspicious vapors shimmered in a riot of colors.

This impressive sight was enough to intimidate Sanzang, Bajie, and Shazeng, and they bowed with every step as they made their way up toward the dais.
