Fitchburg doesn't let the facts or the law get in the way of imposing taxes.

And how data centers are creating strange bedfellows.

And finish up with an awesome quote from Federalist number 10.

Our governor has decided that our kids can't receive these scholarships here because he's so dug in against vouchers that he's willing to keep public school students from having this access to scholarships.

Hochul and Polis figured this out, and our next Wisconsin governor would be well advised to quickly give this another look sometime between their victory speech and the end of the year.

In other news, I was at Fitchburg City Council meeting last night where they approved a citywide forestry fee adding at least $38 a year to every utility bill in the city to fund a forestry budget.

First off, the way this is structured, it follows the transportation utility fee playbook, which the courts ruled aren't allowable under state law statute 66.0627 if you're keeping score at home specifically allows charges for tree care provided to a property okay however taking care of a random tree across town doesn't mean you provided a service to my property We've clearly established that creating a tax and naming it a fee won't magically turn it into a fee, even though this is still obviously a tax.
