Yes.

As a filmmaker, it's almost a cliche, but I have images from some of the films that have inspired me the most on my walls.

Right now I'm looking at Lessons of Darkness from Werner Herzog, Claire Denis's Sans Famille, uh, No Fear, No Die in English, Andrea Arnold's Fish Tank, and a film that's very, very dear to me, Fallen Angels by Wong Kar Wai.

Mm-hmm.

They're there to inspire me and to make me remember why I'm here.

That's a good film.

He's in Fishtank, which is an incredible indie film I watched one time.

Hell yeah.

Yeah, it's one of his first movies.

Still this one lost.

At the BAFTAs it was nominated for Best Adapted Screenplay again but lost to Up in the Air, and it was nominated for the Alexander Korda Award for Best British Film but lost to Fish Tank.

And then this was interesting: it also was at the BAFTA Awards Scotland.

They have their own branch of the BAFTAs.

It won for Best Directing in Film or TV, Best Writing in Film or TV, and Best Acting Performance in Film for Peter Capaldi.

At the British Comedy Awards it won the Best Comedy Film award, and at the British Independent Film Awards it was nominated for the Best British Independent Film but lost to Moon, Best Director but lost to Andrea Arnold for Fish Tank.

It won Best Screenplay.

Capaldi was nominated for Best Actor but lost to Tom Hardy for Bronson.

And we didn't, we were very time pressed.

So as opposed to getting the actors together to discuss and maybe improvise the kind of bullying that she'd experienced from the stepmother, instead we showed the young actor who was running away from home, we showed her the trailer for Andrea Arnold's fish tank in which there's a very violent pinch from the mother.

The mother pinches the teenage daughter because she knows the teenage daughter is having some kind of sexual vibe with Michael Fassbender.

So there's a really violent little flash where the mother pinches the teenage daughter's arm really, really hard.

So that was really useful, the pinch, because we could say to the girl who was running away, that's the kind of thing that has happened to you.

She has not personally experienced that, the young actress, but she could use a fact fiction sandwich as much truth as she possibly could, as much fiction as she needed to make it true for her.

She was able to use the trailer of Fish Tank and her own personal experience to create this experience for the character.
