First Cow

I've only seen three of her films, Kill His Flower Moon.

First Cow, she's very minorly in it.

First Cow is kind of pointless because she's not

in

it that much.

Year before that, your outliers are The Last Duel, Red Rocket, Tragedy of Macbeth.

Year before that, it's First Cow, The 40-Year-Old Version, The Midnight Sky, News of the World, and Soul.

Uh, so been on a, a run of a, a good handful of just not at all Oscar movies or not Oscar movies, like, uh, in terms of what actually gets nominated.

Um, so some space for strangeness.

And when they see it, you're like, okay, I know that it's right then, because if the director can see it.

You know, when I was working on this movie for this director, Kelly Reichardt, I did this film called First Cow.

And the lead role of this guy, Cookie, was the character's name.

And it was a period piece.

I forget what, um-

First Cow?

Yeah, that must be it.

Certain Women?

Certain Women is the one.

She's in Certain Women and First Cow, both Kelly Reichardt.

I, I don't, I don't think I ever saw First Cow.

Okay.

being in an environment and just kind of letting these people exist and you know find their way that type of thing but um well i think right also is good about like

she will not let you immediately hit the beats of the story that you expect that you're like there are parts in First Cow or Meek's Cutoff where you're like, wait a minute, is this the inciting bit of the story? Wait, is this what the plot is about? Where, again, and then you get kind of lured into it.

And that's what I love so much about The Mastermind is sequences like that where you actually have to play by the film's rules.

You have to play by her rules in the movie and not go into it with the expectation of like... well, this scene has the lead to this or this, you know, there's just an organic kind of like natural tempo to her movies that I find really relaxing.
