Splatoon, sorry.
JohnHOST

Speaking of getting the book for the cover, how about this one? Sable 19 from First Comics, 1989, the second John Sable series.
JohnHOST
48:30
Adam Hughes cover.
JohnHOST
48:32
Adam both penciled and inked the cover, making it a very early example of his work.
JohnHOST
49:20
So no, it is not his first cover.
JohnHOST
49:23
It is very clearly, adam hughes though um and sable itself has an interesting indie comics history it was created by our buddy mike grell from the warlord and the original john sable freelance series ran 56 issues before first relaunched it simply as sable in 1988 with marv wolfman writing it that was because there was a short-lived live action sable tv series on abc you're kidding me No, I think it lasted, they filmed eight episodes, and I think they only aired like maybe half of them.
JohnHOST
49:58
That happened in 87, and that alone is a pretty interesting accomplishment for a first comics character from the early direct market era.
JohnHOST

An average ungraded copy of Sable 19 will run you about 13 bucks, pretty affordable for an Adam Hughes cover.
Stephen SchleicherHOST

Yeah.
Stephen SchleicherHOST
29:50
So this was originally released by first comics, which was maybe explains why maybe it didn't have a big enough reach or didn't get enough attention.
Stephen SchleicherHOST
29:57
Cause first comics was one of those comment companies that kind of came and went.
Stephen SchleicherHOST
30:01
Um, certainly Matthew and I have talked in the past about, uh, trying to, uh, find issues of hero Alliance or ex mutants, uh, not the ex mutants you guys are thinking of, but a different ex mutants because it jumped from like eclipse pipe Piper, you know, three different publishers, uh, over the course of like two years.
Stephen SchleicherHOST
30:18
And so that may be first comics was a little bit more, uh, stable, uh, than, than some of those, but I can see why it may not have been in everybody's faces originally, uh, then later republished, uh, because of its popularity, it's a newfound popularity repeat reprinted at, uh, image comics.

Nick SmithHOST

Nick SmithHOST
17:06
The reason I've read Star Slayer from Mark Grell is because that was the stuff that was in this long comic box, and I was just reading whatever I could get my hands on.
StojerHOST

Vince HuntHOST

Tony EsmondHOST

lovely, isn't it? Isn't it lovely? And then the year before when I came, it was First Comics, because they had a load of First Comics guests.
Tony EsmondHOST
23:55
And it's basically all the guests doing a commission of Savage Dragon.
Daniel ButcherHOST
