As we turn our attention now to another aspect of what's going on here, I'm joined by Darren Buchanan, who's a senior assistant ch- chief fire officer.

With Halloween just around the corner, Darren is here to share vital fire safety advice, highlight the risks around bonfires and fireworks, and talk about how we can all keep our homes and communities safe over the festivities.

Um, yeah, I'm here today to talk to you about, uh, fire safety.

Fire safety in the home, um, is the main, main topic I'll be talking about.

Um, as we come into the autumn time, winter time, it's a time we'll find, uh, we respond to more fires nationally, um, and in W- in Wexford as well.

The mall opened on schedule.

The point is, fire prevention is boring until it isn't.

Your data says cooking is number one, and that's true, but the fires that kill people are the ones nobody saw coming.

The smolder.

The lesson isn't move to

a concrete building.

The lesson is that fire prevention is a system.

Back in June, Port Hope's fire chief received top honors from a provincial organization.

The Ontario Municipal Fire Prevention Officers Association named Jason Williams the 2026 Fire Chief of the Year.

It was a huge honor for him and for the municipality.

His distinguished career spans decades working mainly as an investigator for the Ontario Fire Marshal's Office and various other positions along the way.

I'd like to begin by saying congratulations on your award.

Oh, it's much appreciated.

It's quite an honor and distinction to be recognized by a group like the Ontario Municipal Fire Prevention Officers Association this year.

It just, you know, to me, it really reflects all the hard work that the members of Port Hope Fire and Emergency Services do each and every day.

Hard work made easier.

On this episode, we're going to be joined again by fire safety consultant Dan Jackson.

We're going to talk to him about fire safety and what contractors need to know about the fire integrity of buildings.
