Nearly 10,000 people have died from 9-11-related illnesses.

This is retired Fire Department paramedic Lieutenant Conrad Matos, who rushed to the World Trade Center on 9-11 and worked on recovery efforts at Ground Zero for months.

He was diagnosed with brain cancer in 2020.

So, um, yeah, this is always tough to talk about, but, you know, I think it's good because, uh, you know, it's just, it's honest and this kind of stuff happens.

So one of the things that I have talked about a lot, and actually it's something I get a lot of questions about is, um, how to say no to chiefs or people of a higher rank in the fire service.

And one of the projects that I had go, I think poorly was one where I wasn't a, I didn't feel like I was able to say no to And so basically the project was we were reorganizing how our heavy rescues respond to calls, or at least that's how the project started.

And it ended up ballooning into this like much, much larger project.

And the first thing I would say is I want to hit both sides of this because I think that there is some interesting points on both sides of the ledger here.

So first and foremost, just because they're shooting down a lot of ideas doesn't mean they don't want innovation.

So we have to be very careful with innovation, not because we don't want in the fire service.

It's a traditional fire service bell ringing, rifle salute, and a solemn escort of a 135-pound steel beam salvaged from the World Trade Center Twin Towers over at the Tampa Firefighters Museum today.
