Fingerprints of the Gods is certainly the book I'm best known for.

And the subtitle of that book was The Evidence for Earth's Lost Civilization.

Fingerprints of the Gods was published in 1995.

The essential proposal was that way back in the last ice age, when our ancestors are supposed to have been nothing more than primitive hunter-gatherers, that there existed on Earth an advanced civilization, a civilization that was capable of exploring and mapping the world, that had scientific abilities, that understood astronomy, in every sense an advanced and sophisticated civilization, and that this civilization was destroyed in a global cataclysm sometime between 13,000 years ago and 11,000 years ago.

This was the essential argument of Fingerprints of the Gods, and I explored several possibilities in that book as to what the nature of that cataclysm might have been.

But when I wrote that book in 1995, I didn't really have a smoking gun.

I had powerful evidence from all around the world that a cataclysm had occurred in that period and had changed the face of the earth completely, but I wasn't really able to come up with a convincing scientific explanation of what had caused that cataclysm.

These are the grimoires of the alternative reality seeker, a mind that possesses a breathtaking intellectual nonconformity.

Here, resting in the shadows, are Graham Hancock's Fingerprints of the Gods, Michael Cremo's Forbidden Archaeology, and Zacharias Sitchin's The Twelfth Planet.

To the unawakened, these are mere fairy tales of lost continents and sky gods.

But to the polymath, these books are the ultimate competitive advantage.

But to understand why these ancient empires fell and what their ghosts can teach us about our own fragile reality, we must shift our gaze from the earth to the heavens.

Part two, the bridge, cataclysms and corporate cycles.

We now stand at the edge of the abyss, peering down into the swirling vortex of deep time As we flip the ancient, crumbling pages of fingerprints of the gods and the twelfth planet, a terrifying, wondrous pattern begins to emerge.

It is a pattern that destroys the comforting illusion of stability.

And it's, and it's so fortunate because, um, like, after I got sober and I kind of, um, you know, I went back to looking into ancient Egyptology and all this different stuff and, that I was interested in and, uh, and, and I came back through the backside of that history and, and had a h- and have a much better understanding about the world, you know, these days than I would have if I would've grown up in that and had that being my, you know, this is how things are.

'Cause really, like, I had, um, gosh, this was when I was baking in Portland, um, I read Fingerprints of the Gods by Graham Hancock, '95, 1995, and I had a s- an existential crisis, um, about history not being linear.

I was like, "What?" [laughs] I mean, it threw me.

It totally threw me.

Um, and his, his narration is, is really, really good.

Um, but I would say that that book, um, after looking at physics, metaphysics, um, you know, just like everything, spirituality, all this, all this stuff, came out in '22, I believe.

And holy smokes, it was kind of like The Fingerprints of the Gods for me.

Um, it was like...

You didn't check who is this source from.

It's like in Fingerprints of the Gods, which is a book that we talked about a bunch of times in the episode on this from Friday.

In Fingerprints of the Gods, he's citing people, historians, art historians, anthropologists, archaeologists.

The problem is he didn't do the source criticism on those people.

So obviously when you're writing a research paper, when you're doing a research topic, you sit there, you collect your bibliography, and then you go, all right, what are the best sources out of my bibliography? Is there anybody I shouldn't? And of course you and I know this is more for the audience benefit, but...

Like, uh, there, there was one guy who, who sat for an interview about ancient apocalypse.

And basically the entire time, he's not arguing with anything Hancock actually said in the documentary.

He's not arguing with anything Hancock said in the last 20 years, he's arguing with stuff Hancock said in fingerprints of the gods.

I want to shout out to him as well.

In his first book, Fingerprints of the Gods, he illuminated this great...

Adapa Apkalu sage time period in early Mesopotamia, which I then really took and ran with that.

And what they describe is an ancient time period that predated anything in the Gilgamesh, Uruk, Ur time period into this mysterious time that has potentially not been acknowledged.

But based on the way he has continually altered his claims and broadened them until they are nearly unrecognizable and harder and harder to argue against, it appears to me that he is defending the career he has carved out for himself and, like most Atlantologists, would continue in his ways even if another piece of writing by Plato were discovered that explicitly stated the whole Atlantis thing was made up.

Hancock started out in his Fingerprints of the Gods, focused on Egypt and its monuments, and the mythological quote-unquote first time talked about in the Edfu texts.

To argue Egyptian culture inherited the knowledge of a precursor civilization, as did ancient Mesoamerican

cultures.

I remember reading, I think it was Graham Hancock's work.

I remember the one before The Fingerprints of the Gods, The Orion Mystery, he did with Robert Boval.

That was probably the first... real reading that I actually did, which again is that correlation I have with that.

There was a lot of wisdom that were drawn me to things, but it was just like, you know, you're interested in something at that age.

You know, this draws me, that's what I'm into, what have you.

But I didn't really start reading until about that time.

And then I remember reading Fingerprints of the Gods.

I think it was 1996, I think, when that came out.

And I'll tell you why.

I've been the skeptic and the scientist, and I still am, but I listened to the audio book of Fingerprints of the Gods.

Now, this was written by a guy called Graham Hancock, and Hancock's just had a Netflix series put out called Ancient Apocalypse.

I watched it.

We were just out of school and my mate was working in London and I went to visit him.

And then we went down to Egypt where another friend of ours was living the expat life.

And James bought Fingerprints of the Gods and I've been wanting to have a look at it for ages.
