is ride the lightning the album where they went from being a really good thrash band to potentially becoming something much bigger because the songwriting suddenly becomes much more ambitious the songs like fade to black shows a completely different side of the band

yeah you get a long instrumental which is very tuneful you get fade to black which is like a doom ballad you know maybe the first doom ballad of all time uh well not really and the first the first doom thrash ballad of all time i suppose you got for whom the bell tolls which is slow and interesting and all these cool parts and then i remember dropping the needle on the first two songs fight fire with fire and ride the lightning it just being absolutely blown away by the tightness and the speed and the energy and the progressiveness of those two on there.

And I always liked escape, you know, it's the one people complain about, but I, I, you know, people complain about it for the, for James's vocal melody on the chorus, but I, I love that little, that little shotgun drum beat thing in there and, and the commerciality of that song.

So yeah, it's just a beautifully sequenced and paced album with a lot of different ideas.

I love the creative ideas that he did on For Whom the Bell Tolls at the beginning.

And I loved what he did on Fight Fire With Fire.

So I think that was his coming out album for that.
