Fever Pitch

So we watched the game or the game.

We watched the movie Fever Pitch the other night.

And I don't know just because we wanted some more baseball in our life.

So I don't know who's seen Fever Pitch.

I think it was my first time watching it, which is kind of funny because I don't think I've ever watched it

before.

but i mean yes same sort of thing i think this one is a pretty clear choice for both of us and bull durham is moving on yeah okay all right we are cruising we really are yeah that's all right i'm sure our listeners are happy too So this one's a fun one.

I mean, this is number nine seed, Fever Pitch versus 24, The Fan.

Did you know Fever Pitch was adapted from a soccer movie? Is that why it's like pitch, like soccer pitch? That's what the original story is.

It's supposed to be a soccer movie.

So you're saying that these people didn't fall in love and bond over the Red Sox? I mean, that's what this one is.

Hmm.

I love a good rom-com.

I mean, I'm going to take Fever Pitch.

It's like, man.

My brother's future father-in-law calls him Fever Pitch.

Have you ever seen that? Have you ever seen the J-Ad? And I'm like, unfortunately, I relate to that movie more than pretty much any movie of all time.

So no, I totally get it.

movie i would give you that maybe everyone hasn't seen but i think it's one of the greatest sports movies ever is hardball

i would go with uh keanu reeves oh okay cool i well i liked um i like fever pitch i know it's not you know maybe not Yankee fans love it, but

no, but that's a great movie though.

I think it's fantastic.

Yeah, you just don't love seeing in different...

Because, by the way, a lot of people don't understand.

They were filming Fever Pitch.

Yeah.

And so our idea was to present something that looked like the TLS or the LRBs, it was published in the same format, long scholarly essays, not much pictures, not many pictures, but all about mass culture.

And I think in the first issue we published for the first time, Nick Hornby before he'd written Fever Pitch.

We published a piece by David Runciman, who went on to become a professor of politics at Oxford on watching porkies in Romania when it was still behind the Iron Curtain.

We also published a piece by someone called Chris Weitz, a Cambridge graduate, who went on with his brother to co-direct American Pie, the porkies of our generation.

Yeah.

And so there's a lot of things, uh, Fever Pitch, which we've talked about lovingly and not lovingly on this podcast, as I told Melinda, is a chick flick with some baseball.
