Take the case of Fethullah Gülen, living in the US as an imam, but in reality, to anyone with any common sense looking at it, he was just a transparent conduit that the CIA needed to funnel $20 billion worth of funds through to so-called Islamic schools and mosques, which were themselves fronts for training the next round of terrorists.

It's a mixture of privateers and useful idiots.

They finance the most radical imams and radical madrasas intentionally to farm the next generation of jihadi cannon fodder.

Yeah.

I mean, maybe the difference between Gülen and the Süleymancı community is that Gülen movement had aligned with AKP for a long while until they broke up around 2012-13.

For the Süleymancız, they never aligned with Erdoğan.

From the very beginning, they are probably the largest religious community in Turkey who has resisted an alignment with Erdoğan and never voted for him.

So it has a long history.

He supported, they supported him, he became an AK Party MP, resources have been provided to him so that he would capture the leadership of the religious community.

But these moves, and maybe it's not well known, it's not that publicized, but they tried a similar thing within the Gülen movement as well in around... late 2000s, early 2010s.

They supported certain figures with leadership claims, but this usually backfires.

I mean, this is, it's not just there, it's Kosovo, it's everywhere, but these cutouts, these same, they would use Islamic charities and things, these radicalized madrasas and stuff.

Sybil Edmonds wrote a lot about this, too, with Fethullah Gulen and so on.

That was a domestic threat, and he was very, very threatened by it.

He was very scared of it.

And, uh, Obama had been dinging, uh, you know, Erdoğan for four years, so I, I suspect that...

And, and who did Erdoğan go after? It was all the people that were supposedly the, the Gülenists, right? They were close with, um, [tsking] I'm forgetting the guy's name.

His last name's Gülen.

Uh, he was hiding out in the Poconos, uh, in, uh, here in, in, in the United States, but he was, he was a rival, uh, to Erdoğan.

It's been some years since I've been in Turkey, uh, but Turkish society has been, uh, divided between the secularism of the Kemalist element, uh, and the, uh, Muslim Brotherhood orientation of the, of Erdoğan and his followers.

Um, and, um, of course, there was an alleged coup against, uh, Erdoğan, uh, by, supposedly led by, uh, the Gülen movement, which has been ruthlessly repressed.

Um, and these, these fissures exist in Turkish politics, um, with quite sharp differences between, uh, the, uh, the, the, the, the followers of Atatürk and, and, uh, and, and the more Islamist, uh, democratic element, uh, uh, behind Erdoğan.

Um, and, but in the middle of all this, let's not forget that the major national security issue that the Turks have faced internally, which was the, uh, violent opposition to terrorism of the, uh, PKK, the Kurdish Communist Party in, in, in, uh, in, in Turkey, um- Uh, has been, has been, uh, set aside.

He spent, he has spent time at Fethullah Gülen's secret retreat convalescing with him to discuss their ideas.
