Fasting in Islam

Now you have the permission to fight back.

So when is the first year that the Prophet and the companions have to experience Ramadan? Or what are the circumstances of the very first Ramadan in which you have Siyam? It's actually the Battle of Badr.

The Battle of Badr takes place right with the revelation of the fasting of Ramadan.

And of course, if you were to think about the circumstances of the Battle of Badr, the Muslims are caught off guard in the sense that they were not expecting full-out battle they were trying to retrieve what was stolen from them from the stolen from from the caravans of abu sufyan what was taken away from them and so these were small battalions that were trying to retrieve some of the stolen goods from abu sufyan and of course the meccans instead wage an all-out battle and they prepare a well fortified armored you know group to fight the Muslims, to confront the Muslims in the battle of Badr, a thousand of them with their full army gear against Muslims who didn't have armor, who didn't have horses, who didn't have the proper weapons to defend themselves.

And then the third pillar.

And then he came to As-Siyam, the fasting.

And he said, وَدَلِيلُ الصِّيَامِ قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَىٰ يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا كُتِبَ عَلَيْكُمُ الصِّيَامُ كَمَا كُتِبَ عَلَىٰ الَّذِينَ مِنْ قَبْلِكُمْ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَتَّقُونَ In Surah Al-Baqarah, Chapter 2, Verse 183, Allah SWT said what means, O you who believe, fasting is prescribed as an obligation for you.

As it was prescribed for those before you.

Muttaqeen.

Pious.

And what is the meaning of Siyam? Siyam means.

Worshipping Allah SWT.

So we take advantage today while Allah has given us this opportunity to strive to do these four things and hope for the reward from Allah .

We ask Allah to accept our Siyam and our Qiyam and all of our Ibadah in this month of Ramadan.

We ask Allah to have mercy upon us.

We ask Allah to grant us goodness in this life and the next.

Zakat, every Muslim is required to give two or three percent of their net worth to the poor.

Saum, they fast during daylight hours for the lunar month of Ramadan to strengthen their willpower and their reliance on God.

And Hajj, Once in a lifetime, every Muslim who is able must make a pilgrimage to the holy city of Mecca, rehearsing for the time when they will stand before God to be judged worthy or unworthy of eternal life with Him.

The words of God revealed to the Prophet over 23 years are collected in the Quran, which literally translates into the recitation.
