Farseer trilogy

And this is...

Fitz listening in gets chills because, like, of course it comes back to the Farseers and what Regal-

Right

... has done.

Right.

And it's, to Fitz, a little bit surprising because in his mind that was something Regal did, but he realizes that that was his own bias clouding that.

And then of course, to outsiders, that is just another tally against the Farseers' name for the awful things they have done, and it doesn't matter that Regal was a pretender or that he took over.

He was a Farseer at the end of the day and did have a claim.

Yeah.

You've got Farseer, which is what you're about to start.

This is, this is the Farseer one.

Yep.

Liveship Traders.

This is the first I'm hearing of those books, so I don't really, I haven't, don't think I've heard them spoken about before.

Yeah.

So you've got the Farseer trilogy first, then Liveship Traders, then The Tawny Man trilogy, The Rain Wild Chronicles, which is the dragons, and then the Fitz and the Fool, which is the last trilogy.

Prince Dutiful did this.

He wants to give you nice things," and he's trying to bridge that Farseer relationship.

But what he's not talking about is how by including Dutiful in this, by giving Dutiful the directive and having Dutiful pick the things out himself, it is also giving Dutiful the ownership-

Right

And he talks about how Kettricken had called for the witted to negotiate with her, and since he was the head of the Piebald faction, it made sense that he would come forward to present their views.

"But as a man who had all but kidnapped the prince, hoping to take over his life, I was amazed that he dared to stand before Kettricken.

She might not hang him for being witted, but he certainly deserved to die for how he had plotted against the Farseers.

And yet there was the rub: she could level no charges against him without revealing that her son was witted.

Stay tuned for our next episode, where we'll be returning to the realm of the Elderlings with the third book in the Farseer Trilogy, Assassin's Quest, by Robin Hobb.

And in the meantime, keep your mind fueled by the magic of stories.

And never stop chasing the worlds waiting for you between the pages.

Right.

What if we shrink the epic down to a single highly damaged mind? That brings us to Robin Hobb's Farseer trilogy from the mid-'90s.

A masterclass in the deeply personal toll of living inside a feudal machine.

We are introduced to FitzChivalry Farseer.

It's a first-person retrospective told by an older man who is just brutally honest about his pain and his guilt.

Hobb's great subject here is damage that does not become a power fantasy.

It's kind of a chore, but it's still pretty good.

And then still the Farseer stuff.

So I've ordered a couple more books.

I ordered Dante.

So this boy...

He was born because he's a Farseer and he's the Lion of the Princes.

He has the ability to reach out.

They call it skilling.

Got it.

And there's this writer, Robin Hobb, that is – she wrote this thing called the Farseer Trilogy.

And there's like – well, there's like six – I'm in book five of this six-book massive – Fantasy thing.

It's an epic, all-encompassing world.

So GPS-guided weapons are out of the question if they can jam them.

So in June, the Pentagon's Defense Innovation Unit launched Project Farseer, worth $200 million.

Its one goal is to move quantum sensors out of labs and into the hands of warfighters.

Fast.

Prototypes must be testable at a government facility within three to nine months of award, not a research program but a fielding pipeline.

What Farseer is buying? Quantum clocks.

Portable atomic clocks so precise a vehicle tracks its own position by timing alone.

No satellite required.
