So Boromir, played by Sean Bean in the movies, is a wonderful, brave soldier, but also very proud.

And his pride is the end of him.

For the reader, the last big culture of men that we met was Meduseld, which had another beautiful description of the arrival at the main centre of power.

But we get the sense that in Gondor that it's just so much bigger so much on a huge huge scale older and it's probably good that we approach them that way around if you're thinking about your various cultures if you're a writer do it that way so it's not a letdown when you go to a smaller culture go to go to the sort of impressive one and then go to the super impressive one And one of the sort of pleasures here for Tolkien buffs is seeing the livery and the guards around the Court of the White Tree.

He says, less now to me is that darkness, the darkness threatening him from the East, than my own darkness.

Yep, he doesn't say it, but he is a depressed and grief, driven mad by grief king.

And we also get a mention here of Faramir.

Boromir has a younger brother.

His name is Faramir and Frodo and Sam walk straight into him.

They're captured in a country called Ithilien by a company of Gondor's soldiers and Faramir is in command of them.

He works out fairly quickly who these two are and he learns from them that his brother's dead.

And he works out piece by piece what it is that Frodo is carrying.

And I want to be careful about that.

Boromir is a great man who fails and then dies putting it right.

Faramir is a different kind of strong, less interested in glory, more inclined to think first and able to look at power and decide he doesn't want it.

trilogy like the things that happen in the books actually happen in the films but like the things that happen in this tv show didn't necessarily happen the way that Tolkien had laid them out yes there is a siege of Eregion but again it's Sauron leading the daggone battle you know it's just like there's different things and

yeah and like well like we talked about with Peter Jackson in the past for every one egregious change that he made that fans were like oh my god like for instance Faramir's characterization Or Frodo telling Sam, go home, Sam, on the stairs of Cirith Ungol.

Those are awful.

Those didn't happen.

Or whatever.
