Fantastic Caverns

If they're deeper, they tend to have fewer stalagmites and stalactites and the pretty stuff that we often associate with caves.

Even in the same cave, if you take a tour in some of the tourist caves around Greene County here near Springfield, like Fantastic Caverns, as you get further back into the cave, the number of cave formations, the stalactites and stalagmites actually drops off pretty radically as you get deeper underground.

Um, so yeah, all of these have their own, they all have their own sort of a unique quality to them, but they all share some characteristics too.

Yeah.

the smell of the grass, the smell of the soil, all that stuff.

So those are some of my favorite parts and it never gets old for me.

We had a young kid visiting us from out of state this summer and we took him up to fantastic caverns because he'd never been in a cave.

And when they turn out the lights and ask for everybody to be quiet, it's still one of my favorite parts.
