Fantasia on Greensleeves

Gathering the folk songs handed down in his homeland, he nurtured a music of warm, distinctly English color.

Today, we bring you the Fantasia on Greensleeves.

Greensleeves is an old English love song sung to a lady in green sleeves, a melody almost everyone has heard at some time.

Von Williams used the tune in an interlude from one of his own operas, and later shaped it into this Fantasia.

Carried on the sound of the harp, it flows gently, like a breeze crossing a green meadow.

Thoughts drifting toward far-off greensleeves.

Today, on Von Williams' birthday, we bring you the Fantasia on Greensleeves, for Windband.

You'll find a link to listen in the show notes.
