Yeah, I don't know what's worse, having to get out and dig out an LMTV and put chains on the wheels to get it up a muddy hill or going down a muddy hill with an LMTV and being like, are brakes a

thing? Has mankind invented them yet? Yeah, you have to deploy a huge parachute like you're a fucking drag car.

But this wasn't the only infrastructure that the Soviets would need to create of thin air to facilitate the movement of so many thousands of people.

It was all infantry guys and one medic.

The lieutenant had us all load up in the LMTV, a truck, and we head out to one of the ranges, which turns out to be one of the furthest ranges on the entire installation.

It's like a 30 to 40 minute drive out there from main post and gets pretty much out in the middle of nowhere.

They use those ranges for a lot of different types of training, and most of it's combat-related stuff.

Of course.

Uh, like, I remember being in the back of an LMTV in the National Guard and just bitching about my life.

[laughs]

You know? 'Cause, like, I'm, I've got a divorce under my belt, like all [laughs] good soldiers.

Just as it was getting light and everyone's nerves were on edge, we saw headlights on the road.

It was an LMTV, and we flagged it down and got a ride back to the compound.

To this day, I still believe that we stumbled into the territory of more than one Sasquatch.

And if we'd acted any differently, things could have turned out badly for both sides.
