Falathrim

Uh, it was called that long before it was ever called Doriath.

And the Falathrim are the shore people of Cirdan who stayed on the course for the love of the sea rather for, than for the love of their missing king.

See? Much better name.

Falathrim, much better.

Uh, Cirdan is the shipwright, built on an ancient root meaning cut, cleave, because a ship is a thing that cuts water.

And the Iathrim, the people of the fence, are the folk of Doriath- Every S-Sindarin subgroup, so you see in there not just like one, uh, ho-homogenous group of elves.

So Doriath is in the middle of a squeeze, and Morgoth's plan is to overrun everything before the resistance can organize, and the elves of the Falas and Ossiriand are brave but very much unready.

However, the elves of Doriath are a little bit, hmm, a little bit more prepared.
